Tenuta San Domenico is a Merlot del Ticino DOC from the Malcantone, made by the Tamborini family winery of Lamone. The grapes come from the vineyards of the Dominican monastery at Neggio, above Ponte Tresa. After about a week's maceration it is raised Bordeaux-style in second- and third-fill barriques. Wild berries and sour cherry with plum, a light vanilla touch and herbal freshness, full-bodied with soft tannins. A small production (a few thousand bottles), rated two stars by the Guide Hachette. Serve at 16–18°C with pasta, red meat or cheese.
