Named for long-serving winemaker Stuart Blackwell, this is St Hallett's structured Barossa Shiraz — drawn from old dry-grown vines and made in a firmer, more savoury register than the region's plusher wines. Blackberry and dark plum with mocha, licorice, cracked black pepper and cedary oak. Full-bodied with firm tannin and a long finish. Old-vine fruit gives it grain and persistence rather than simple weight, and it needs a few years to settle.
