Tasting profile

Structure: medium-bodied, medium tannin, high acidity, dry

Thief in the Night is Duncan Savage's Grenache-led red from old, unirrigated bush vines on decomposed sandstone high in the Piekenierskloof, the same plot that gives Eben Sadie's Soldaat. A little Cinsault (and in some vintages Syrah) joins the blend. Fermented with native yeasts and some whole bunches, then aged about ten months in foudres. Red berries, strawberry, red plum and pomegranate with dried rose, thyme, white pepper and sweet spice; concentrated yet fresh, with smooth, fine tannin.

Serving: Serve at 15–17 °C.
