Grotte Alte is Arianna Occhipinti's flagship and her only DOCG wine: Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico from roughly equal parts Nero d'Avola and Frappato, named after the limestone ridges around Vittoria, organically farmed and aged for several years in large old oak before release. Sour cherry, pomegranate and dried rose over blood orange, herbs and an earthy, chalky core; the Nero d'Avola gives depth and chewy tannin, the Frappato lift and perfume, and high acidity keeps it taut. Far more structured than the estate's other reds, and built to age.
