Hugh and Michelle Jones bought a dusty paddock running down to a dry Lake Cooper in 2010, during a drought with the wine industry on its knees, and planted it on the eastern slope of the Mount Camel Range at Corop in the Heathcote region. What makes the vineyard interesting is that its varieties were chosen as a deliberate response to a warming climate: Grenache, Grenache Blanc, Picpoul and Marsanne all went in for their heat and drought tolerance, with Sangiovese and Mataro to follow. Marsanne here gives lifted wildflower and jasmine over stone fruit and citrus, with the warm, waxy textural mouthfeel the variety is known for and a long finish. Low in acidity but substantial, and it turns honeyed and nutty with a decade in bottle.
