Tasting profile
Structure: medium-bodied, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry
Estate-grown Nero d'Avola from the Costanzo family's high-altitude vineyard at Ballandean in Queensland's Granite Belt. The cool nights and granite soils hold on to acidity, so the Sicilian grape comes out brighter and more medium-weighted than it does in its homeland. Expect black cherry, mulberry and plum with dried herbs, a twist of pepper and a light cocoa edge, on soft but present tannins. Made to drink in its first several years with Italian-style food.
