Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry

Sassi Grossi is Gialdi's flagship Merlot, from steep vineyards in the Tre Valli of northern Ticino, where granite and gneiss soils give the wine a mineral line. It spends sixteen to eighteen months in barrique and is bottled without fining or filtration, so a little sediment is normal. Dark cherry, blackcurrant and plum meet graphite, cocoa and vanilla, with a dense but fresh palate and fine, firm tannins. Regularly rated among Switzerland's best Merlots, it is long-lived and develops well over a decade or more.
