Tasting profile
Structure: medium-bodied, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry
A Valdepeñas Gran Reserva sold under the Casa Safra label and made by Bodegas Fernando Castro in Santa Cruz de Mudela, in the south of La Mancha. It is 100% Tempranillo, given about 18 months in oak barrels and then further years in the cellar before release, as the Gran Reserva rules require. The long ageing gives a soft, mellow style: dried cherry and plum with vanilla and sweet spice from the oak, turning to tobacco and leather. Pair with roast lamb, grilled meats or Manchego.
