Les Bois Chevaux is one of the smaller premiers crus in Domaine Joblot's Givry holdings, higher and stonier than Servoisine and giving a lighter, more red-fruited wine — cherry and cranberry with rose and clove, over a distinctly limestone-cool finish. Joblot's oak regime is generous by Côte Chalonnaise standards but the fruit here is finer-boned, so the wood shows more clearly in youth and needs time. Less imposing than the domaine's flagship, and the better wine for a weekday table once it has settled.
