Wallcliffe is the original vineyard the Hohnen brothers planted in 1970, and the Wallcliffe reds are limited bottlings drawn from the finest parcels and the best barrels of a given season — the varietal blend changes with what the year offers. This one pairs Petit Verdot's dark, ferrous power with the perfumed lift of Cabernet Franc. Cassis, red cherry and plum with sweet spice, mocha and licorice, then paprika, cigar and cured meat underneath, and a forest-floor savour on the finish. Deep ruby, densely tannic, chalky in texture, and long. Approachable on release but genuinely built for the cellar.
