Valdadige is the Adige valley appellation running through Trentino and into Alto Adige, and it is one of the main sources of Italian Pinot Grigio. Altitude is what makes it worth attention: the Alpine setting gives cold nights that preserve acidity and aromatic definition, so the wines have more shape than the flat-country Pinot Grigio that gave the variety its bland reputation. Barone Fini trace their family in the valley to the sixteenth century. Expect green apple and pear with citrus, white flowers and a touch of almond, medium-bodied with crisp acidity and a clean, faintly mineral finish. Made in the fresh, unoaked style rather than the richer Alsatian register the same grape produces as Pinot Gris.
