Blackberry and dark plum when young, turning over decades into dried fig, raisin, chocolate, coffee and old leather. Full-bodied and sweet, with a long warming finish. Both the alcohol and the sugar act as preservatives, which is why wines like this age on a long flat plateau rather than rising to a peak and falling away. Throws a heavy crust with age.
