Walter Scott built its reputation on Willamette Chardonnay at a time when Oregon was thought of almost solely for Pinot Noir, and La Combe Verte is the entry cuvée — sourced across several vineyards rather than from one site, made in the estate's restrained house style. Lemon, green apple and white peach over a stony, saline minerality, with barrel used for texture rather than flavour and no attempt at buttery richness. Medium-bodied and taut, with the high acidity Oregon's cool sites preserve. Closer in shape to Chablis or the Côte de Beaune than to California.
