Tasting profile
Structure: full-bodied, high tannin, medium acidity, dry
Tribidrag is the Croatian name for the grape the world knows as Zinfandel in California and Primitivo in Puglia — DNA work in the 1990s traced all three to this Dalmatian original, also called Crljenak Kaštelanski. Grown on its home ground under fierce Adriatic sun, it gives a darker, more savoury wine than its Californian cousin: blackberry and dried fig over black pepper, Mediterranean scrub and a warm carob note, with high alcohol and firm tannin. Full-bodied and powerful, more herbal and stony than jammy.
