Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, low tannin, low acidity, off-dry

Zinnkoepflé, above Westhalten and Soultzmatt, is the warmest and driest of Alsace's grands crus — a steep limestone-and-sandstone amphitheatre that pushes Gewurztraminer to full ripeness almost every year. The wine that results is unmistakable and unsubtle in the best way: lychee and rose petal, candied grapefruit peel, ginger and warm baking spice, with a honeyed richness and a full, oily weight across the palate. Acidity is naturally low here, so the balance comes from phenolic grip and sheer concentration rather than freshness, and there is enough residual sugar to read as gently sweet. Serve cool, and give it something equally assertive on the plate.
