The Douro in its lighter, newer register: Luís Seabra works Touriga Franca and the increasingly fashionable Rufete from high, cool schist sites, aiming for freshness rather than the density the region built its name on. Red cherry and cranberry rather than black fruit, wild hillside herbs, a peppery edge and a distinctly stony finish. Finely drawn moderate tannins, bright acidity and restrained alcohol. A red for the table that takes a slight chill well and drinks beautifully young.
