Touriga Franca

**Touriga Franca** is a red grape from the Douro Valley of northern Portugal, one of the most widely planted varieties in the region and a cornerstone of both Port and increasingly ambitious dry reds. **In the glass** — it brings ripe blackberry and dark-cherry fruit, floral and sometimes rosemary-like hints, supple tannins and good colour, lending elegance and perfume alongside firmer grapes in a blend. **Where it grows** — its heartland is the Douro, where it is prized for reliability and is often blended with Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz. It is also grown across other Portuguese regions and in the neighbouring Dão, valued for balancing power with aromatic lift. **At the table** — the dry reds suit grilled lamb and hearty stews; Port is a classic match for blue cheese and chocolate. **Cellaring** — dry Douro reds reward several years in the cellar, and its contribution helps Vintage Port age for decades.
