Tasting profile
Structure: medium-bodied, low tannin, high acidity, sweet
Brachetto d'Acqui is Piedmont's sweet sparkling red — a rarity in Italy, where sweet fizz is almost always white. The Brachetto grape is intensely aromatic, giving rose petal, strawberry and raspberry on the nose in a way that recalls Moscato but in red. Fermentation is stopped early, leaving low alcohol at around five and a half per cent and considerable sweetness, with a soft frothy mousse and bright acidity keeping it from cloying. Light and vivid; the aromatics are the whole wine.
