Tasting profile
Structure: medium-bodied, medium tannin, high acidity, dry
Anatolikos Vineyards farm organically at Avdira in Thrace, on Greece's north-eastern coast near the Nestos delta, and have built the estate around reviving the varieties that grow there rather than importing international ones. Mavroudi is one of them — an old Thracian red almost lost to phylloxera and neglect. The wine is medium-bodied and distinctly Mediterranean: red plum and sour cherry over dried oregano, black pepper and a sun-dried tomato savour, with high acidity, moderate but grainy tannin and a leathery finish as it ages. Rustic in the good sense, and made for the table.
