**Thermenregion** is a small Austrian wine region just south of Vienna, named for the warm thermal springs of the area. **Wines & grapes** — It is best known for distinctive white wines from two local grapes, Zierfandler and Rotgipfler, which are often blended together; the region also grows red varieties including Sankt Laurent and Pinot Noir. **Character** — The wines tend to be full-bodied and richly textured for Austrian whites, with ripe stone-fruit character balanced by firm acidity. The relatively warm, sheltered setting on the eastern slopes helps the fruit ripen fully.
