Riverland

**Riverland** is a large, warm inland region along the Murray River in South Australia. It is one of the country's biggest sources of grapes by volume and a workhorse of the Australian wine industry. **Wines & grapes** — A wide range of varieties is grown, including Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and other popular grapes, much of it going into approachable, everyday wines and blends. **Character** — The hot, dry climate and reliance on irrigation from the river favor ripe, generous, fruit-forward styles. While long associated with high-volume, value wines, the region has also seen growers experiment with hardy, warm-climate varieties suited to its sunshine. **Good to know** — Riverland produces a very large share of Australia's total wine grape crush.
