**Corsica** is a mountainous Mediterranean island belonging to France, lying between the mainland and Italy, with a wine culture shaped by both influences. **Wines & grapes** — Reds and rosés rely on Nielluccio (closely related to Sangiovese) and the spicy Sciaccarello, while the aromatic Vermentino leads the whites. Rosé accounts for a large share of production. **Character** — Abundant sunshine, sea breezes and diverse granite and limestone soils give wines that are warm and herb-scented, echoing the island's wild maquis scrubland. Appellations such as Patrimonio and Ajaccio are among the most respected. **Good to know** — Corsica also has a tradition of sweet Muscat, notably Muscat du Cap Corse.
