Calatayud

**Calatayud** is a wine appellation in the Aragón region of northeast Spain, in the hills of Zaragoza province. **Wines & grapes** — It is celebrated for reds from old-vine Garnacha (Grenache), often grown on gnarled, low-yielding bush vines, with other varieties playing a supporting role. **Character** — Vineyards climb to notable altitude on rugged, stony slopes where slate and other poor soils force the vines to struggle, concentrating flavour.
