Viosinho

**Viosinho** is a white grape from the Douro Valley of northern Portugal, one of the region's prized native varieties for making quality dry white wines and white Port. Though not planted in large quantities, it is highly regarded by growers for the class it brings to a blend. **In the glass** — aromatic and finely balanced, with citrus, white flowers, stone fruit and a delicate mineral character; it has good body and structure with a fresh finish, giving blends both aroma and weight. **Where it grows** — centred on the Douro and neighbouring northern Portugal, typically blended with other local whites such as Rabigato and Gouveio, and occasionally bottled on its own. It performs well on the region's schist terraces, holding its poise in a warm climate. **At the table** — a fine match for roast fish, poultry and creamy sauces. **Cellaring** — enjoyable young, though the more structured examples can develop over a few years.
