**Muscaris** is a white grape bred in Germany by crossing Solaris with a Muscat variety, developed as a modern PIWI (fungus-resistant) grape that lets growers cut back sharply on spraying. **In the glass** — it is unmistakably aromatic, giving fragrant notes of ripe muscat grapes, orange blossom, elderflower and citrus, with a soft, fruity palate and gentle acidity. It works both dry and in off-dry or sweeter styles. **Where it grows** — plantings are still small and concentrated in German-speaking wine countries such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland, where organic and low-intervention growers favour its disease resistance; it also appears in newer cool-climate regions experimenting with resistant varieties. **At the table** — lovely as an aperitif or with lightly spiced Asian dishes and fresh fruit. **Cellaring** — best enjoyed young while its perfumed aromatics are at their most vivid.
