Mtsvane

**Mtsvane** is a white grape from Georgia, grown notably in the eastern Kakheti region, whose name means "green" in reference to its greenish berries; it is a prized part of the country's indigenous winemaking tradition. **In the glass** — it is delicately aromatic, with floral, orchard-fruit and stone-fruit notes and lively acidity; vinified traditionally on the skins in qvevri it takes on amber colour, grip and greater complexity. **Where it grows** — it is essentially a Georgian variety, most at home in Kakheti, where it is often blended with Rkatsiteli to lift aromatics. **At the table** — pairs well with herbed vegetable dishes, white meats and Georgian cuisine. **Cellaring** — fresh examples are best young, while skin-contact versions gain the structure to age for several years.
