Moscatel Roxo

**Moscatel Roxo** is a pink-skinned member of the Muscat family, grown in Portugal and associated above all with the Setúbal peninsula south of Lisbon. **In the glass** — Like other Muscats it is intensely aromatic, offering orange blossom, rose, ripe grape and honeyed spice, but as a fortified wine it takes on a warm, deep character with raisin, dried apricot and marmalade notes over a rich, sweet palate. **Where it grows** — It is a specialty of Setúbal, where it is comparatively rare and often bottled as a prized fortified Moscatel, quite distinct from the more common white Moscatel of the same region. **At the table** — Delicious with almond desserts, dried fruit or a wedge of aged cheese. **Cellaring** — The fortified sweet style ages beautifully, gaining complexity over many years in bottle.
