Malvasia Fina

**Malvasia Fina** is a white grape widely planted across northern and central Portugal, especially in the Douro and Dão; despite the Malvasia name it is one of the milder, less overtly aromatic members of that broad family, valued as a dependable blending component. **In the glass** — subtle aromas of orchard fruit, citrus and a faint nuttiness; medium-bodied with moderate acidity and a soft, rounded palate. **Where it grows** — the Douro, where it contributes to both white Port and dry Douro whites, and the Dão, along with other parts of Portugal; it lends body and gentle fruit rather than pungent aromatics. **At the table** — white fish, creamy poultry dishes, or served simply as an aperitif. **Cellaring** — usually drunk young, though richer Douro examples can hold for a few years.
