Loureiro

**Loureiro** is a white grape from northern Portugal, one of the leading varieties in the Vinho Verde region. Its name nods to the laurel plant, a reference to its distinctly perfumed character. **In the glass** — it is highly aromatic, with floral, citrus and orchard-fruit notes and that signature hint of laurel or bay. The palate is crisp and light-bodied, driven by bright, refreshing acidity and often a subtle spritz in traditional Vinho Verde. **Where it grows** — the cool, damp Minho region of northwest Portugal is its heartland, where it is bottled alone or blended with Alvarinho and other local grapes. It is also grown just across the border in Spain's Rías Baixas. **At the table** — an ideal match for fresh shellfish, grilled sardines and light summer fare. **Cellaring** — made to be enjoyed young and vibrant, ideally within a year or two of the vintage.
