Luxembourg

**Luxembourg** is a tiny but serious wine producer whose vineyards line the left bank of the Moselle River, making almost exclusively white and sparkling wines of notable crispness. **Signature wines** — Aromatic, high-acid whites are the specialty, from Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, Rivaner (the local name for Müller-Thurgau), and the old workhorse Elbling. The country also has a strong traditional-method sparkling tradition. **Key regions** — Production is confined to a single stretch: the Luxembourg Moselle, a ribbon of steep and gentle slopes running along the German border in the country's south-east. **Good to know** — Wines qualify for the national *Moselle Luxembourgeoise* appellation, and quality sparkling wine is bottled under the protected *Crémant de Luxembourg* label, made by the same method as Champagne. Given the northerly, cool-climate setting, freshness and delicacy define the house style rather than power.
