Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, high tannin, high acidity, dry

Meerlust is one of the Cape's oldest estates, farmed by the Myburgh family since 1756, sitting close to False Bay where sea breezes cool the vineyards more than Stellenbosch's reputation suggests. Their Merlot is made in a restrained, Bordeaux-facing register rather than the ripe Cape style: plum and black cherry over cedar, tobacco, dried herbs and a savoury, earthy undertow. Full-bodied with firm tannin and better acidity than most warm-climate Merlot, which is what lets it age.

Serving: Serve at 16–18 °C.
