Touraine Gamay, grown in the middle Loire where the variety takes on a leaner, more peppery cast than it does in Beaujolais. Crunchy red cherry and raspberry with a violet lift and a stony, faintly peppery finish, light in body with very little tannin and vivid acidity. Best served slightly chilled, which sharpens the fruit rather than muting it, and drunk young while the crunch is still there.
