Tasting profile
Structure: medium-bodied, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry
1918 Cellars is the private wine label of Castle Farms, a fieldstone castle at Charlevoix in northern Michigan built in 1918 by Albert Loeb of Sears, Roebuck as a model dairy farm, and now a historic attraction and wedding venue. The label was launched for the property's centennial in 2018, and the name Stonemason nods to the castle's stonework. These are Michigan-produced wines made under contract rather than estate-grown, so the vineyard source is not stated on the label. Michigan reds are typically built on Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir or Marquette and other cold-hardy hybrids, and tend to be lighter and higher in acidity than warmer regions produce. Expect red and dark berry fruit with a savoury edge, soft tannins and fresh acidity. Made for immediate, easy drinking.
