Cape Vintage

Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, high tannin, medium acidity, sweet

A Cape Vintage, the South African port-style fortified red, bottled under the Buffelsdrift label from Klein Karoo fruit and made by Christoff de Wet, winemaker at De Krans in Calitzdorp. Dense blackberry, ripe plum and dark chocolate are lifted by violet, liquorice and sweet spice. It is sweet and full-bodied at 18.5% alcohol, with firm young tannin. Like other Cape Vintages, it softens over a decade in bottle and gains dried-fruit and spice complexity.

Serving: Serve at 14–16 °C.
