Tikveš

**Tikveš** is the largest and best-known wine region of North Macedonia, spread across the Vardar River valley in the centre of the country. **Wines & grapes** — Reds dominate, led by the native Vranec, a deeply coloured grape, alongside Kratošija; whites include Smederevka and the aromatic Temjanika. **Character** — The region enjoys a warm blend of continental and Mediterranean influences, with plenty of sunshine that ripens grapes fully and gives the reds their dark colour, ripe berry fruit and full body. It is a long-established wine-growing area with a substantial share of the nation's vineyards and a tradition of hearty, generous reds.
