Nelson

**Nelson** — A small, sunny wine region at the northern tip of New Zealand's South Island, just west of Marlborough, with a strong boutique, artisan character. **Wines & grapes** — Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay lead the whites, with excellent aromatic Riesling and Pinot Gris, while Pinot Noir is the main red. **Character** — A cool but bright maritime climate with plenty of sunshine hours gives wines with vibrant fruit and crisp acidity. Production is small in scale and firmly quality-focused.
