Navarra

**Navarra** is a wine region in northern Spain, just east of Rioja, historically famous for rosé but today making a wide spread of styles. **Wines & grapes** — Garnacha (Grenache) is the traditional backbone, long used for vivid, fruity rosados, while reds and blends also feature Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Whites and sweet Moscatel are made as well. **Character** — The region bridges Atlantic, continental and Mediterranean influences, giving cooler, fresher wines in the north and riper, fuller ones in the warmer south. Overall the reds are approachable and fruit-forward, and the rosés bright and dry. **Good to know** — Navarra earned its early reputation on Garnacha rosé before international grapes broadened its range.
