Rkatsiteli

**Rkatsiteli** is a white grape from Georgia, especially the eastern Kakheti region, and one of the world's oldest and most widely planted traditional varieties, central to the country's ancient winemaking heritage. **In the glass** — it is marked by bright, firm acidity with green-apple and citrus fruit and a subtle spicy, floral character; when fermented on the skins in traditional clay qvevri it turns amber, gaining tannin, nuttiness and dried-fruit depth. **Where it grows** — Georgia remains its heartland, but it is also grown across Eastern Europe and the former Soviet countries, and in pockets of the United States. **At the table** — versatile with white meats, vegetable dishes and, in its amber form, robust and spiced fare. **Cellaring** — fresh styles drink young, while skin-contact qvevri versions can age impressively for many years.
