Neuburger

**Neuburger** is a white grape of Austria, a natural crossing of Roter Veltliner and Silvaner that has become a modest but characterful part of the country's vineyards. **In the glass** — recognisable for its nutty character, with orchard fruit and soft floral notes; it is typically medium-bodied with gentle, unaggressive acidity, giving a mellow, rounded feel. **Where it grows** — most at home in Austria's Wachau, Thermenregion and Weinviertel, where it makes everything from dry table wines to riper, fuller styles. **At the table** — pleasant with roast chicken, pork or creamy vegetable dishes. **Cellaring** — generally best in its first few years, while its nutty freshness shows well, though richer examples can hold a little longer.
