Falanghina

**Falanghina** is a white grape from the Campania region of southern Italy, with ancient roots around Naples and the Bay of Naples. It has been a leading light in the revival of Campania's native white varieties and now makes some of the south's most appealing dry whites. **In the glass** — aromatic and fresh, with citrus, green apple, white flowers and a hint of stone fruit or herbs; bright acidity keeps it crisp, and the body is light to medium with a clean, mineral finish. **Where it grows** — concentrated in Campania, notably around Benevento (Sannio), the Campi Flegrei and the coast, with scattered plantings elsewhere in southern Italy. Volcanic and coastal soils lend it a saline, mineral character. **At the table** — a natural with seafood, shellfish and Mediterranean vegetable dishes. **Cellaring** — best drunk young to catch its freshness, though better examples hold for a few years.
