Cesanese Comune

**Cesanese Comune** is a red grape from the Lazio region around Rome, and — as its name suggests — the more common, larger-berried and more widely planted member of the Cesanese family (often simply called Cesanese). **In the glass** — It produces a medium-bodied red with red-cherry and berry fruit, a floral, faintly spicy character, soft tannins and a warm, approachable feel. **Where it grows** — Its home is the hills of southeastern Lazio, where it contributes to the region's Cesanese-based appellations, sometimes alongside its finer cousin Cesanese d'Affile. **At the table** — Pairs happily with roast meats, cured pork and rustic Roman dishes. **Cellaring** — Usually best enjoyed young and fruity, within a few years of the vintage.
