Avesso

**Avesso** is a white grape from northern Portugal, one of the varieties used in the Vinho Verde region, particularly its warmer, more inland pockets. **In the glass** — it is pale straw, with stone-fruit and citrus aromas; compared with many Vinho Verde whites it is fuller and rounder, keeping bright acidity alongside a little more body. **Where it grows** — mainly the Vinho Verde region of Portugal. **At the table** — a natural with grilled fish and seafood. **Cellaring** — best drunk young and fresh, though its fuller frame gives slightly more staying power than the lightest Vinho Verde grapes.
