Airén

**Airén** is a white grape native to central Spain, above all the vast plains of La Mancha, and it has historically been one of the most widely planted varieties in the country by area. **In the glass** — It typically gives a pale, light-bodied wine with a neutral, subtly fruity character, gentle citrus and apple notes and soft acidity, making it easy and unassuming rather than dramatic. **Where it grows** — Its heartland is the hot, dry expanse of La Mancha and surrounding central Spain, where its drought resistance suits the harsh climate.
