What features do we want/need

By jagduvi ·

I wonder if it is anything that we are missing that you users like to have, or if it is something that don't work the way you want?

I really need an easier way to manage changes.

I couldn't find any way of even renaming a rack I created so had to delete and re-create.

Also, I would like to "convert" my rack into the new wine fridge type and I'm ok with creating a new one but now I have 80 bottles to move over so something like a side-by-side drag-and-drop feature would be really useful because the way it is now I don't really know if I can be bothered to do it.

Finally, I made a mistake when adding 6 bottles of wine and I can't see any way of selecting all 6 to make the change. I also imported about 100 bottles and the price didn't come through but I couldn't find any way of just deleting them all and re-import. I certainly won't be selecting each bottle at a time and then hit delete. Again a multi-select would be very useful.

Johan

Thanks a lot for taking the time to write this up. This is exactly the kind of feedback I need.

Renaming a rack: it does exist, but it's far too hidden. On the Racks page there's a small pencil icon in the rack's header ("Rename or group this rack"). For open shelves and wine cabinets that header only shows in the Compact view. I'll make it easier to find.

Several bottles at once: on the cellar page, tap Select (or long-press a bottle) to pick several bottles or a whole group. From there you can set the purchase price and date, mark them as drunk, move them to another cellar, reserve them or set a drink window. It can't yet change the vintage, size or wine, or delete them. What was the mistake on the 6 bottles? That tells me which fix to do first.

Moving bottles to the new wine fridge: you're right, there's no good way today. Each bottle has to come out of one rack and be placed again in the other. A "move all bottles to another rack" action is going on my list.

Prices missing after the import: the importer only recognises a couple of names for the price column and skips anything else without telling you. What is the price column called in your file? With that I can make it read your file. I'm also looking at a way to delete a batch of bottles, so you can import again.

Thanks again!

New to the app but really enjoying it so far!

Is there a way to configure a cabinet rack where bottles alternate base forward, neck forward in one row, rather than two deep neck to neck?

It would be great to be able to choose some of the additional bottle details to display in the main list - for example ratings.

One other minor suggestion - I save the website as a web app on my iPhone, but the favicon isn’t the right size, you could add a dedicate iPhone favicon.

Thanks!

Johan

Thanks, and welcome to Cellarion!

Cabinet with bottles head to tail: not quite yet. What works today is a Wine cabinet with "Two deep" switched off, with the number of bottles per shelf set to what fits head to tail. Numbering, placing and counting all work; the drawing just shows every bottle facing the same way. A "head to tail" option that draws every other bottle reversed is on my list.

More details in the list: good idea. Today the list shows the vintage, drink window and rack, and the speech-bubble button adds a note preview. For ratings now, the table view (the grid icon next to the list and card buttons) can list your bottles with a Rating column. Choosing what the list itself shows is on my list too.

iPhone icon: thanks for spotting it! The home-screen icon squeezes the whole logo, name included, into a small square. I'll make a proper one.

liamdoris

Thanks for highlighting the board view and the ability to customise, I hadn't picked up on this. One suggestion there would be for ratings format to either pull through as per your settings, or to include options - stars/points, rather than just stars.

Thanks!

Johan

Good point about the ratings, thanks! An update on everything from this thread: it is all live on Cellarion now.

From liamdoris:

  • Ratings in the table and dashboards now follow the rating scale in your Settings (stars, /20 or points), also in averages, filters and the CSV export.
  • Details on the cards: the new "Show on cards" button, next to the list and card buttons, adds your rating, the price, bottle size, region or purchase date under each wine.
  • Cabinet bottles head to tail: create or edit a wine cabinet, untick "Two deep" and tick "Bottles lie head to tail". Every other bottle is then drawn neck forward. This one is a preview feature (see below).
  • iPhone icon: there is a proper home-screen icon now. Your phone keeps the old one, so remove it from the home screen and add the site again.

From oztomis:

  • Renaming a rack: Rename is now in the ⋮ menu of every rack view (Compact, Shelf and 3D).
  • Deleting several bottles at once: tap Select (or long-press a bottle), pick the bottles and choose Delete. Deleted bottles stay in "Recently deleted" (the ⋮ menu on the cellar page) for 30 days, so a mistake can be undone.
  • Prices after an import: the importer reads many more price column names now, and tells you when it found a price column it could not read.
  • Moving all bottles to the new wine fridge: on the Racks page, open the old rack and choose ⋮ → "Move bottles to another rack". They move in one go and keep their order. Also a preview feature.

Preview features: moving a rack's bottles and head to tail are in early access while we make sure they work well. To try them, turn on "Try new features early" in Settings → Early access. If something does not work the way you expect, the Give feedback button next to them sends it straight to me.

Thanks again for the feedback!

Thanks a lot and I didn't mean to sound negative in my response. It's a great app with a lot of promise but I have ~800 bottles and haven't made the call yet whether to switch or not but certainly will if it keeps improving at this rate.

I have turned on the "new features" and that does give me some of what I need. I'll try the move bottles and see how it goes. As to the import fortunately I did it in batches so I was able to fix it but it's just that without a way to delete 100 bottles in one go there was no way to simply re-import without duplicates.

Finally, put this low on your todo list but I have this weird cabinet which has one bottle sideways at the front (I didn't want a cabinet that was too deep so that was a good compromise). I also put my bottles on the bottom row sideways which I have seen a few other cabinets do the same so an option to turn bottles sideways would be good (unless I missed it).

Johan

Not negative at all, this is really useful. Thanks!

Bottles lying sideways: this is live now, as a preview feature. When you create or edit a wine cabinet, you can set how the bottles on each shelf lie:

  • front to back (as before);
  • one bottle across the front of the others;
  • all across, like your bottom row.

The map, the shelf view and the 3D view all draw it. Slot numbers and the number of bottles stay the same, so you can switch it on your current cabinet without moving anything.

Your Atelier Duo is in the list of cabinet shapes too: Kingsbottle Atelier Duo, 86 bottles, laid out after Kingsbottle's loading diagram (one bottle across the front of each shelf and a bottom bin of 7 lying across). Every shelf can still be adjusted after you pick it. To start from that shape, create a new cabinet from it and use ⋮ → Move bottles to another rack to bring your bottles across in one go.

Both need "Try new features early" switched on in Settings, which you already have.

quewino

I just wanted to say how impressed I am with the platform. I've essentially made a full switch from CT, and the experience has been excellent. Keep up the great work!

quewino

Maybe I haven't found it yet, but it would be great to have the ability to create and manage a "pick list" of wines. Ideally, the list would show the rack and bottle position for each wine, so you don't have to open every individual wine entry to locate it in the cellar.

Johan

Thank you, and for the kind words in your earlier post. Really glad the switch from CellarTracker went well!

Pick lists are live now, as a preview feature. Turn it on under Settings → Early access → "Show me new features before everyone else".

  • In your cellar, tap Select, pick the bottles and choose Pick list. Or use ⋮ → Add to pick list on a bottle's page. Add them to a list you already have, or name a new one, like "Saturday dinner".
  • The list shows each bottle with its cellar, rack and slot, grouped in the order you walk past the racks. Tap a slot to see the bottle highlighted in its rack.
  • Tick bottles off as you pick them, print the list to take down to the cellar, and mark the picked ones as drunk in one go.

Your lists are under Pick lists in the menu. And for everyone: the rack badge in the cellar list now shows the slot too ("📍 Fridge · slot 12"), so you can see where a bottle is without opening it.

Let me know how it works for you. The Give feedback button on the pick list page comes straight to me.

oztomis

Awesome, thanks for that.

Just one minor issue with the "Front Bottle Sideways" option. It treats it as part of the bottom row in a stack (which is correct in a way) so I end up with 3 bottles on the bottom row and 4 on the top like an inverted pyramid. It really should be 4 bottom, 3 top (in the grooves) + the extra 1 bottom front so 5 bottom, 3 top. I can toggle the option to turn that off but then I end up with 3 bottom, 3 top + 1 at front.

Johan

Thanks, you were right: the bottle across the front took one of the bottom row's places, so nothing could draw your shelf. That is fixed now.

On a shelf with two or more levels, in a cabinet one bottle deep, the level above a bottle lying across now rests on the bottles behind it, so it holds one fewer. For your shelf: make it 5 wide with alternating rows and one bottle across the front. You get 1 across + 4 on the bottom and 3 in the grooves on top, 8 in all, like the real fridge. The map, the shelf view and the 3D view all draw it that way.

The Kingsbottle Atelier Duo shape has the same fix for its top shelf, and it still holds 86.

One catch: a shelf's width and alternating rows are set when you create a cabinet. Your new cabinet is still empty, so the easiest way is to delete it and create it again, either from the Atelier Duo shape or with your own shelves, then move your bottles across with ⋮ → Move bottles to another rack.

Thanks again for spotting it!

quewino

It would be good to be able to edit the quantity off bottles on order. Maybe I have not found that possiblity 😅🤔

quewino

Sorting by quantity would also be nice! 👍🙏

Johan

Thanks for both ideas — they're live now (v1.271.0):

  • Change the quantity of an order: on the On order page every line now has Change quantity, next to Change month. Raise the number and the new bottles get the order's price, shop and expected month; lower it and the most recently added go to Recently deleted, with Undo right there.
  • Sort by quantity: the sort menu on the cellar list now has Most bottles first and Fewest bottles first. It orders the cards by how many identical bottles each holds; cards with the same number stay A to Z.

Let me know how they work for you!

Hello again, two more feature requests.

  1. I cannot drag and drop bottles on my iPhone, not sure if this is supposed to work but if there's no easy way to drag could I at least click, choose move, and then place?

  2. I accidentally drank a bottle (well not really) and I wanted to undo it but could not figure it out, also tried to just add the bottle but it wouldn't add (I was able to add to wishlist but then couldn't figure out how to actually add it anyway). I ended up just having to scan it again.

Johan

Thanks for both, good ones! They're live now:

  • Moving a bottle on a phone: on the Racks page, tap the bottle, choose Move, then tap the slot it should go to. Onto another bottle in the same rack, the two swap places. It's in early access for now: turn on Settings → Early access → Show me new features before everyone else to try it, and let me know how it works for you.
  • Undoing a drink: after taking a bottle out from a rack, the 3D room or several at once, you now get the same Undo as on the cellar list. From a rack, Undo puts it back in the same slot. If you notice later, History has Move back to cellar on bottles taken out in the last two days.
  • Adding it back: History and the drunk bottle's page have Add again, the wishlist has Add to cellar on every item, and so does a wine's page in the registry.

Let me know how they work for you!

Thanks for the wonderful app and the continuous attention.

I personally like the cards view a lot and it could be good to also add the following to it:
- color/style - maybe a color band or a colored frame, to see if it is red, white, sparkling etc.
- grapes
- maybe year could be moved to the top right of the card, on the image, since length of the year text is predictable

oztomis

Tried the move and works really well thanks. Haven't tried the others but I can see the option is there now.
