Your wine fridge is not a grid

In short: Cellarion has a new rack type, Wine cabinet, that describes a wine fridge the way it is really loaded — a single row on the shelves you left in place, a stack of rows in the bays where you pulled a shelf out. It is drawn as an appliance you can open in 3D, it ships with starting shapes for Vintec and Liebherr models, and if your model is missing we will add it: just ask.

Your fridge is not a grid

A wine cabinet is an awkward thing to describe in software. The maker quotes one number — say 148 bottles — and the cabinet arrives with five or six sliding shelves that between them hold nothing like 148 bottles in a single layer. The instructions then tell you the rest: pull a shelf out, stack bottles in the bay below, and keep going until the cabinet is full.

That is why two owners of the same model end up with completely different cabinets. One keeps every shelf in place and stores a single row on each. Another pulls half the shelves out and stacks six rows deep in the gaps. Both are using the cabinet correctly. Until now Cellarion could only offer them a rectangle of slots, which described neither.

How a cabinet is described

Three numbers, and they are all yours to set:

So a cabinet whose shelves read 1, 1, 4, 4, 6 is one you have loaded exactly the way the manual describes: two shelves left as they came, three bays stacked. The capacity follows from your own description rather than from a number on a box.

Two options that only change the picture

Neither option moves a bottle or changes how many the cabinet holds, so you can switch them on a cabinet that is already full. The shelves themselves are fixed when you create the cabinet, because changing them would renumber every slot.

See it before you build it

When you create a rack, the preview opens in 3D for cabinets and open shelves, filled with bottles so you can judge the shape at a glance. Switch to the numbered slot map when you want to see how positions run: shelf by shelf from the top, and inside a bay row by row up from the shelf, left to right.

In the cabinet's own 3D view you can open the glass door, slide a shelf out and click any bottle. The shelves behave like the real thing — one slides at a time, and the bottles ride out with it. Here it is in motion:

Start from your own cabinet

Rather than typing shelf counts from scratch, pick your model. Cellarion ships starting shapes for the Vintec range and for the Liebherr GrandCru, Vinidor and Vinothek ranges, each showing the maker's quoted capacity next to what the shape holds.

They are starting points, deliberately. We take each model's published capacity and shelf count, but no maker publishes how you loaded the cabinet, so the rows per shelf are our best approximation and the first thing worth correcting. The inputs sit right under the preset.

Your model is missing

Very likely — the wine cabinet market is enormous, and we started with the two makers our own users brought us.

If your cabinet is not in the list, tell us and we will add it. Open a support request from your account, or post in the forum, and include:

A photo of the inside, or a link to the manual's shelf diagram, helps more than anything else. A preset is a few lines of data, so this is one of the quickest things we can do for you.

The same goes for a model that is already in the list but wrong. If a preset says four rows where yours holds six, that is worth reporting too: it means our approximation is off, and everyone with that cabinet gets a better starting point once we fix it.

Moving from another app

Cabinets also arrive through imports. If you are coming from Oeno, whose exports describe cabinets shelf by shelf and layer by layer, Cellarion reads that structure directly and rebuilds each cabinet with the rows you actually had, so every bottle lands in its own cell instead of an approximation. Exports that describe a front and a back row become Open Shelf racks instead, which is the right shape for a sliding-shelf cabinet.
